Funeral Rites Elihu Abernathy Set Wednesday
Elihu R. Abernathy, 64, well known farmer of Cartersville, Route 1, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 6, at his home, following a sudden illness.
A native of Bartow County, he was the son of John S. and Mary Gravitt Abernathy. Thirty-eight years ago, he was married to Miss Nevada Howell, who survives her husband.
He was affiliated with the Baptist church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, at the Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Howell officiating. Interment followed in the nearby cemetery, with the Owen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers were Walt Gravley, Allen Rogers, Frank Cox, Robert Mitchell, Danny Clark and John Veltee.
Survivors, besides the widow, include two daughters, Mrs. Hugh Sanford and Mrs. John Waits, both of Bartow County; four sons, Odie, Melvin, DeWitt and Oliver Abernathy, all of Bartow County; two sisters, Mrs. Matilda Barger, of Cartersville, and Mrs. Minnie Elgia, of Anniston, Alabama; two brothers, Cleve Abernathy, of Rydal, and Linford Abernathy of Cartersville; and five grand children.

NEVADA HOWELL ABERNATHY

Mrs. Nevada H. Abernathy, 87, of 517 Cassville Road, died in a local hospital Sunday, February 21, 1982, following an extended illness.
She was a native of Bartow County and was a daughter of the late Bob and Liddie A. Howell. She was a member of the Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church and was a housewife.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Hugh Sanford of Cartersville and Mrs. John W. Waits of Emerson; four sons, Odie, Melvin, DeWitt and Oliver Abernathy, all of Cartersville; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elihue R. Abernathy, in 1954.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, at the Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church on Canton Highway with Elder Wayne Peters and Elder W.D. Howell officiating. Interment will be in the Old Macedonia Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
