Joicy Eveline McGhee Abernathy The Tribune (Cartersville, Georgia) July 28, 1938 Mrs. J.F. Abernathy, Ill Many Months, Died on Monday Funeral services for Mrs. Joicy Eveline Abernathy, 82, who died at her home here Monday following an illness of many months, were conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock from the Macedonia Church, Rev. Bartow Phillips officiating in the presence of a large following of sorrowing relatives and friends. Interment was in Macedonia Cemetery by the side of her husband, the late Mr. John F. Abernathy, who passed on eight years ago. Eight grandsons served as pallbearers with Owen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Born in Arkansas, July 4th, 1856, the deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas McGhee. She came to this section as a young woman and has lived here practically all her life, winning a wide scope of friends through personal contacts that endeared her to everyone who knew her. Survivors include three sons, Messrs. E.R., J.W., and A.S. Abernathy; six daughters, Mrs. J.P. Cox, of Canton; Mrs. Felix Abernathy of Powder Springs; Mrs. F.W. Cox of Woodstock; Mrs. D.O. McCurley, of Marietta; Mrs. J.R. Smith, of Lyerly, Georgia; and Mrs. Madison Abernathy, of Cartersville. Besides other wide spread and prominent family connections, seventy-nine grandchildren, fifty-nine great-grandchildren, also survive. Friends extend tenderest sympathy to members of the bereaved family in their great loss of mother, councilor and friend.
