Collision Fatal To Adairsville Resident Monday

Mr. Walter Abernathy, 40, who makes his home near Adairsville was killed instantly Monday evening when the car he was driving collided with an express truck in Cassville late Monday evening. His son Harold, aged 19 and their young friend, W.C. Blackmon, passengers in the Abernathy car, miraculously escaped serious injury, as did Mr. W.S. Painter, driver of the truck.
An ambulance was quickly summoned from Adairsville, Mr. W.P. Whitworth answering the call, but Mr. Abernathy was beyond medical aid before help arrived. A careful examination revealed a deep bruise across his chest, and it is naturally supposed he met death when thrown violently against the steering wheel.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, at 2 o’clock at the Macedonia Baptist church, interment following in the family lot of the church cemetery. W.P. Whitworth was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, his mother, Mrs. Nan Abernathy, three sons, Harold, Elihu and Charles, one daughter, Ruth. Their many friends extend their heartfelt sympathy over their great loss.

No arrests were made in the case since the accident has been termed as unavoidable. Mr. Painter, who gave his address as 604 Snow Street, Chattanooga, Tennessee, was allowed to return home Tuesday morning.
