William A. Abernathy, 83, of Acworth, died Saturday afternoon at Kennestone Hospital.

Funeral services were Monday at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, Cartersville, with Rev. Nat Abernathy and W.D. Howell officiating. Interment was in Old Macedonia Cemetery, Cartersville. Collins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include Miss Alice Abernathy and Miss Mattie Abernathy of Acworth, Mrs. A.J. Hunt of Kennesaw, Mrs. George Hurlburt of Drayton Plains, Michigan, Mrs. Arthur Brookshire of Acworth, Mrs. Elmer Gentry of Kennesaw, Mrs. Lenton Clayton of Woodstock, Mrs. Troy Garrett of Kennesaw; sons John Abernathy, Harley Abernathy, and J.M. Abernathy of Acworth, Alonzo Abernathy of Norcross; twenty-three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Mrs. Bertha Osborne and Mrs. Nancy Hitt of Austell, and Mrs. Mrs. Minnie Bivins of Emerson, Mrs. Etta Jones of Acworth, Mrs. Nellie Summey of Atlanta.
