William J. Brooks, of Route 2, Cartersville, died early Friday morning following a brief illness.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emmagene Howell Brooks; five daughters, Miss Marian Brooks, Mrs. Shirley Worley, Mrs. Evelyn Dodge, Mrs. Doris Thacker and Mrs. Billy Jo Smith, all of Cartersville; eight grandchildren; five brothers, Jim, Burl, Virgil and Melvin Brooks, all of Dalton; and Earnest Brooks, Detroit, Michigan; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Howell officiating. Interment was in the old Macedonia cemetery.
Pallbearers included Larry Brooks, Harley Brooks, Roscoe Brooks, Randolph Howell, Dennie Mac Shinall, David Howell.
Mr. Brooks was a veteran of World War II and was a Baptist. He was 64.
Owen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Emergene Howell Brooks, 89, of 5580 Highway 20, SE, Cartersville, died Thursday, January 09, 1997.
She was born July 02, 1907 in Bartow County, a daughter of the late William Martin and Eva Howell, was a member of the Center Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph Brooks, she is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Billie and L.C. Smith, Doris and Lamar Thacker, Shirley Worley, Marion and Lewis Tidwell, all of Cartersville; a son and daughter-in-law, William Martin and Hazel Brooks; a son-in-law, Jack Dempsey, all of Kingston; a sister, Myrtle Abernathy, two brothers, Herman and Harold Howell, all of Cartersville, 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Dempsey; grandson, Mark Hobbs, son-in-law, Claude Avery Worley, Jr.; two sisters, Gertrude Shinall and Armeretta Shinall and three brothers, Hubert, Howard and Hoyt Howell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 11 from the chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammy Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Macedonia Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Lewis Smith, Ken Smith, Greg Thacker, Mitch Worley, Chris Tidwell and Tom Davis.
