Old Macedonia Cemetery Ella May Hufstetler
NOTES: Daughter of Jesse and Emma Hulsey Hufstetler Information comes from Georgia Death Certificate #6217. She may be one of the children buried under the stone "The Babies." There is some confusion over the last name for this family. Sometimes they are listed as Hufstetler, sometimes they are listed as Hite. *************** The following information is from family researcher David Mills: I wanted to add what I have found in researching the Hufstetler Family as I see notes in the site http://www.beyondthepalace.com/macedonia/index.html stating some confusion on why some individuals are listed as Hite in some records and Hufstetler in other records.
Samuel Freeman Hufstetler (22 May 1863 – 29 Dec 1939)-S (S1) Victoria Abernathy (b. _______; d. _________) (S2) Mary Martha Jane “Mattie” Hite (b. abt 1867; d. ______) Samuel Freeman Hufstetler and Victoria Abernathy (daughter of Barden Larkin Abernathy) had 2 daughters. It is believed that the two divorced as Victoria is found married to Levi Ely in the 1900 Census. Samuel Freeman is found in 1910 living down the street from Mary Martha “Mattie” Hite (single with 7 living children; 6 listed on the Census). These children are found in later census using the name Hufstetler. Mattie and Samuel are found married on the 1920 Census with some of Mattie’s children (Hites) listed as Hufstetler.
Thought I’d share. There are many Hufstetlers
today whose biological line is actually Hite but because of the Samuel
Hufstetler, Mary Martha Hite union took on the name Hufstetler. I
have not been able to find Mary Martha “Mattie” Hite’s
maiden name if she were ever married to her 7 children’s father. RETURN TO OLD MACEDONIA HOMEPAGE Information provided for research purposes only. Do not copy and paste on other websites.
