James Polk McCoy Tribune-News (Cartersville) - June 14, 1923 In Memory of James Polk McCoy On the 8th of May, God saw fit in His infinite wisdom to take from our midst one of our most beloved neighbors, James Polk McCoy, aged 77 years. He enlisted in the war between the states June 6, 1862, served three years, six months and twenty days. He was born in Hall County, and at four years of age moved with his parents to Cherokee County. He joined the church October 7, 1888, and lived a life of service to His Master. The funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. Stanley, of Canton, and his casket was covered with flowers, in token of love. He was loved by all who knew him, and he always had a friendly word for everyone he met. Mr. McCoy was married to Miss Georgiana Leonard, April 2, 1868. She was the daughter of the late Mica Leonard. To this union was born six girls, of who four are living. They are Miss Mela and Miss Fannie McCoy and Mrs. John Conway and Mrs. J.W. Day; also six grandchildren and a host of friends who mourn his loss. We can say with the poet, "Weep not, loved ones, for me, for I am waiting in heaven for thee." He was laid to rest at Macedonia Cemetery. John W. Jones being in charge of the funeral arrangements. --A Friend Cherokee Advance, Canton, Georgia, May 18, 1923 Mr. James P. McCoy died at his home just over the line in Bartow County last Tuesday morning of pneumonia. Mr. McCoy was raised in Cherokee County near Sharptop and was 76 years old when he died. He married Miss Georgia Leonard, who with four children survivoe him. His remains were laid to rest at Macedonia cemetery on Wednesday.
Georgia Ann Leonard McCoy Cherokee Advance, Canton, Georgia, January 11, 1929 Mrs. J.P. McCoy of Bells district died Saturday at her home after a prolonged illness. She was 87 years of age at the time of her death, having spent a great portion of this time in the community where she died.
