Luther White, son of Fannie Ellen Atkinson and Willie Gus White.

Luther built a shelter over his mother's grave, then dug his own grave beside hers. At the time, commented one person, it didn't occur to anyone that it was strange to watch a man dig himself a grave.

Luther F. (Bob) White, 83, of Route 3, Cartersville, died Monday, April 18, 1988, in a rome hospital following an extended illness.
He was born in Cherokee County November 2, 1904, a son of the late Willie White and Fannie Atkinson White, was a member of the Center Baptist Church, a life member of Cartersville Lodge Free and Accepted Masons Number 63, was retired from E-Z Mills and prior to his retirement from E-Z had operated a number of local restaurants.
Surviving are a foster son, Hayden Mullinax of Cartersville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gus White and a sister, Ida Reeves.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Macedonia Baptist church on Canton Highway with the Rev. Ben J. Hite officiating. Interment will be in the Old Macedonia Cemetery.
Members of the Cartersville Lodge No. 63 will serve as pallbearers with Masonic rites being observed at the graveside.
